Summary
  • Lana Lourdes Rupić (19), daughter of Goran Višnjić, returned the dog Lou to the Rijeka shelter, sparking strong condemnation from Animal Friends.
  • Goran and Eva Višnjić decided to adopt Lou, who was rescued in mid-May from a property on Učka where animals lived in poor conditions.
  • The association stated that adoption entails responsibility for the animal's entire life and that returning it to a shelter is not justified.

The story of Lou, a dog rescued from a property on Učka, took a dramatic turn after 19-year-old Lana Lourdes Rupić, daughter of renowned actor Goran Višnjić and Mirela Rupić, returned her to the Rijeka shelter. Animal Friends sharply condemned her actions, while simultaneously expressing gratitude to Goran and Eva Višnjić, who decided to adopt the dog so she wouldn't remain in the shelter.

Lou was among the animals rescued in mid-May 2026 from a property in the Učka area, where dozens of dogs and cats lived in extremely poor conditions. After Lana Lourdes Rupić adopted her, Lou was returned to the shelter a few months later. The family claimed the dog attacked their cat and could no longer safely live with other animals, but this did not soften the public's and the association's reaction.

Association's Strong Message: 'Such an Act Has No Justification'

Animal Friends issued a statement on August 6, 2026, with no holds barred. They said returning an animal to a shelter is unacceptable and that adoption entails lifelong responsibility.

"We are deeply disappointed by Lana Lourdes Rupić's decision to return the dog to the shelter. Such an act has no justification. Even when a complete inability to continue caring for a dog or cat truly arises, the adopter should find a new verified good home for the animal themselves. Adopting an animal means taking responsibility for it until the end of its life," reads the statement, as reported by Novi list.

The association also emphasized the importance of responsible care and noted that the need for adoptions in Croatia remains high, and calls not to buy animals are extremely important.

Goran and Eva Višnjić Take Over Care of Lou

While his daughter faces criticism, the actor and his wife Eva decided to act. They will adopt Lou and provide her with a stable home, giving the story of a dog that changed homes twice in a few months a new, happier perspective.

"We thank Goran and Eva Višnjić, who will adopt the dog Lou so she doesn't remain in the shelter," the association said.

With this act, the Višnjić family has divided roles in the public eye: while 19-year-old Lana faces accusations of irresponsible behavior, her father and stepmother receive praise for their willingness to take over care of an animal in urgent need of a permanent home.
