Summary
  • The deadline for completing work on the northern Bjelovar bypass has been extended from July 31 to August 25, 2026.
  • Although the asphalt has been laid, the road is not open because horizontal road markings are missing.
  • Freight traffic continues to be diverted through Bjelovar and surrounding areas.
  • The new deadline was announced by HAK on its road conditions map.

Reconstruction work on a section of the state road DC28, specifically the northern Bjelovar bypass, will not be completed before August 25, 2026. This new deadline was announced by the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) on its interactive road conditions map, confirming an extension from the initially announced date.

According to earlier information, traffic on this section was supposed to be restored by July 31, 2026. However, that deadline has passed, and the temporary traffic regulation, which has been in effect since June 15, 2026, remains in place.

Asphalt Laid, but No Markings Means No Traffic

Although work on the ground is visibly progressing and the final layer of asphalt has already been laid, the road is still not ready for traffic. The main reason is the lack of horizontal signaling, i.e., road markings on the pavement, which are crucial for the safety of all road users.

Trucks Through the City, Cars Up to Krleža Street

Due to the closed bypass, freight traffic heading from the direction of Zagreb towards Đurđevac, Virovitica, and Osijek continues to be diverted. The route goes via Predavac, Bjelovar, the Southern and Eastern bypasses, and Trojstveni Markovac towards Letičani.

Slightly different rules apply for passenger car drivers. Those coming from the direction of Zagreb can use state road DC28 all the way to Miroslav Krleža Street in Bjelovar, after which traffic is regulated according to the temporary signaling in place. From the opposite direction, traffic flows via alternative routes through Letičani, Trojstveni Markovac, and Bjelovar.

It is worth recalling that Hrvatske ceste closed part of the northern bypass in mid-June 2026 to continue the reconstruction of state road DC28 on the section between Predavac and Bjelovar. According to data from the Croatian Automobile Club, temporary traffic regulation is expected to remain in effect until the completion of works, i.e., until August 25.
