While the football public is still under the impression of the news that Real Madrid has officially confirmed the transfer of Yan Diomandé from RB Leipzig, new information has emerged that sheds a different light on the entire deal. According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Madrid club and the player's camp have agreed to add an extra year to the contract.
Various sources are reporting conflicting information about exactly how long the Ivory Coast international will stay at the Santiago Bernabéu. Is Diomandé signing a contract that expires on June 30, 2033, while Sky Sports writes that it runs until the summer of 2033? However, Fabrizio Romano claims on his Telegram channel that an addendum to the contract has been agreed that would run until June 2032. In a post on August 6, 2026, at 12:03, Romano wrote: "I understand that Real Madrid and Yan Diomandé and his camp have now agreed to add an extra year to his contract. The deal is now being approved by the legal department on the player's side, it will be valid until June 2032."
Regardless of the final contract duration, the financial details of the deal are impressive. The total transfer value is €140 million, of which RB Leipzig will immediately receive a fixed fee of €125 million, while the remaining €15 million is earmarked through bonuses. For comparison, the previous record for the highest transfer fee paid by Real Madrid was for Jude Bellingham, for whom the club paid €130 million.
The story of 19-year-old Diomandé is truly remarkable. Last season, he played for Leganés, who were relegated from La Liga, and in just six appearances, he scored two goals. That was enough for RB Leipzig to pay €20 million for his arrival in the Bundesliga. In the past season, he exploded in Leipzig's jersey, recording 33 appearances with 12 goals and nine assists. He also confirmed his excellent performances at the World Cup as one of the best players for Ivory Coast.
Interestingly, Diomandé had reportedly already agreed to a contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2031 earlier this summer. However, PSG withdrew from the race, and in a statement to Sky in Germany, they said that "the requested compensation and wage demands were completely disproportionate and distortive." Liverpool were also interested but were not willing to pay more than £85 million, while Arsenal and Manchester City also monitored the situation. In the end, Real Madrid, after having an initial bid of €100 million rejected, managed to agree on the deal.
