Rijeka Animal Shelter Desperately Seeks New Home

The Rijeka Animal Protection Society issued a public appeal on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, for help in finding a new location for its shelter. After a lengthy and, as they themselves point out, extremely frustrating search, they have decided to reach out to local communities and individuals.

A Search Full of Disappointment

Through social media, the Society shared their experience, not hiding how much the lack of success has affected them. "Although we tried intensely to find something and although we found something that would suit us, we always hit a wall. Headfirst. With all our strength. And it hurt," their emotional post reads.

Despite numerous attempts to identify suitable land, no option has yet met all the necessary conditions for relocation. Because of this, they have decided to widen the circle of those from whom they seek help.

Appeal to Everyone

The call has been directed to cities and municipalities in the area that would be acceptable for the new shelter, asking them to also try to find suitable space. At the same time, help is also being sought from citizens.

"If any of you know of a location that meets the criteria the shelter must satisfy, please let us know," they said from the Rijeka Animal Protection Society.

Better Conditions for Dogs as the Main Goal

The goal of the entire campaign is clear: to find a space where dogs will have significantly better living conditions than at the current location. "Help us in this search and to open our doors as soon as possible somewhere where our dogs will be better off," they added, thanking everyone who has supported their work over the years.

The Rijeka shelter has been warning for some time that the current location is not suitable for long-term animal care. They hope that with the help of the community and citizens, they will finally succeed in finding suitable land.
