The City of Rijeka has initiated the process of naming several public areas, and among the proposals included in the public consultation, those dedicated to the football club and its fans draw particular attention. Two sections of the former state road D427 could be named Petar Radaković Street and Street of Fallen Armada Members.
According to information published on the City of Rijeka's eConsultations website, the consultations opened on August 5, 2026, and will run until September 2, 2026. The draft proposals were submitted by the Committee for Local Self-Government of the Rijeka City Council, and all proposed names have been previously included in the Street and Square Names Fund.
The subject of the naming is two sections of a road stretching from the administrative border of the City of Rijeka to the Rujevica interchange on the A7, with a total length of 2.24 kilometers. The first section is proposed to be named after the tragically deceased Rijeka footballer Petar Radaković, while the second would bear a name in honor of the numerous Armada members who died in the Homeland War.
The Committee determined that for the naming of the first section, identical proposals were independently submitted by the political party Lista za Rijeku, City Council member Predrag Miletić, and the Armada Rijeka fan club. Consent was given by the Radaković family and HNK Rijeka. For the second section, the proposal was submitted by the Armada Rijeka fan club, with consent from the Armada Association of Volunteers and Veterans of the Homeland War and HNK Rijeka.
Both names were deemed appropriate for the location, especially since they are thematically linked to the Rujevica area, which has been home to the HNK Rijeka stadium since 2015. The Pehlin Local Committee Council also gave a positive opinion. The implementation of the decision would not incur additional costs for the City of Rijeka, as there are no registered residences or headquarters in the area.
In addition to streets, two parks are also included in the consultation. The green area in Kantrida, located between the former children's hospital complex and the "Kantrida" Home for the Elderly, should be named Laurel Park. The initiative was launched by the "Kamenjak" Mountaineering Society, which manages the area, and the name is already recognized in the local community.
The Trsat Local Committee Council proposed that the park next to Trsat Castle, which is part of the public tourism infrastructure managed by the Rijeka Tourist Board, officially bear the established name Laval Nugent Park. Positive opinions from the relevant local committee councils have been obtained for both parks.
Interested citizens can participate in the process by filling out online forms available on the consultation pages. Comments and suggestions can also be entered directly in the comment field at the bottom of each consultation page. The City invites everyone to review the draft proposals and provide their suggestions to ensure the final decisions are of the highest quality.
