The Municipal State Attorney's Office in Koprivnica has issued a decision to conduct an investigation against four Romanian nationals, and as ePodravina has learned, they are the suspects who attempted to rob an A1 telecommunications store in the center of Koprivnica at the end of July. Three of them are also being investigated for the criminal offense of assaulting an official after they attacked two police officers who found them at the scene.
According to the prosecution, the suspects attempted a burglary on the night of July 28, 2026. While a 30-year-old waited in a car and kept watch, a 35-year-old, a 39-year-old, and a 29-year-old forcibly opened a window at the back of the store and entered. However, their plan failed because the alarm was triggered, and they fled without stealing anything.
Attack on Police Officers and Injuries
Shortly after the attempted theft, two police officers found the three suspects hiding. A violent confrontation ensued. "There is reasonable suspicion that all three charged at one officer and knocked him to the ground," confirmed the DORH for ePodravina.
The attack continued against the second officer. "Then the 39-year-old and the 29-year-old charged at the second officer, knocking him to the ground, while the 35-year-old tried to hit him with a brick. He failed because the officer dodged," added the prosecution. Both officers were injured in the incident.
Pretrial Detention Ordered
The Municipal State Attorney's Office in Koprivnica proposed to the investigating judge of the County Court in Varaždin to order pretrial detention for all four defendants due to the risk of flight. The court accepted the proposal and ordered pretrial detention for them.
