New generation of foldable phones surpasses all predecessors in just six days, including the legendary Note 10 series from 2019.
Samsung's new Z 8 series of foldable phones has achieved a historic success in its domestic South Korean market. The Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 together have amassed 1.44 million pre-orders, breaking the record previously held by the Galaxy Note 10 series back in 2019, according to the Korean news agency Yonhap News.
The new record was set in an exceptionally short period, from Wednesday to Monday. While the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ took 11 days to gather 1.38 million pre-orders, the new Z 8 series needed just six days to reach 1.44 million. This marks the first time that Samsung's foldable devices have surpassed not only all previous foldable generations but also every Galaxy model in the company's history.
It is particularly significant that foldable models have, for the first time, outperformed the extremely popular Galaxy S series. For comparison, this year's Galaxy S26 collected 1.35 million pre-orders in seven days, which is also an impressive result, but the Z 8 series proved even more appealing to consumers.
The lion's share of the record-breaking result came from the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which accounted for as much as 70 percent of all pre-orders. Samsung highlights that the new, wider format of the foldable device particularly attracted younger buyers and women, suggesting that foldable phones are no longer a niche reserved solely for tech enthusiasts.
The success of the Z 8 series did not happen overnight. The path was paved by the gradual growth in popularity of foldable models: the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 together recorded 1.02 million pre-orders, while their successors, the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, saw a decline to 910,000. Last year's Z 7 series returned to an upward trend with 1.04 million pre-orders, and now the current generation has exploded, setting a new absolute record.
