In the Ražnjić area of Lumbarda on Korčula, the day before yesterday, August 2, 2026, a yacht named HORIZON, approximately 30 meters long, anchored just fifteen meters from the shore. Two ropes were set toward the shore, and the vessel's proximity to a popular swimming spot raised concerns for a reader who reported the incident to the authorities.

Concern for Swimmer Safety

The reader described the situation to Morski.hr and Index.hr as potentially dangerous, emphasizing that Ražnjić is not a private mooring but a place where people come to swim and enjoy the sea. "People normally swim there, children are in the water, and this kind of mooring of a large vessel right next to swimmers poses a serious risk, from the vessel hitting someone, ropes snapping, maneuvering, or an accident during departure," he stated.

He added that the situation was reported to the police and the relevant harbor master's office, but despite the report, no one came to the scene. "Despite the report, no one came, and the yacht remained in the same spot. This is not a question of luxury, tourism, or who owns the yacht. This is a question of the safety of people swimming and respecting the rules at sea," the reader said, stressing that "the safety of swimmers must be the top priority."

Ministry: Yacht Within Permitted Zone

After inquiries were sent to the relevant authorities, the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure responded that the yacht is currently properly anchored. "The yacht HORIZON is properly anchored and moored to the shore in the port area, at the anchorage marked with the symbol S in the spatial plan of the Lumbarda municipality, away from the natural beach, marked PP, and within 70 meters of the shore," the Ministry stated.

The Ministry cited Article 53, Paragraph 7 of the Ordinance on the Safety of Maritime Navigation in Internal Waters and the Territorial Sea of the Republic of Croatia, which stipulates: "Vessels are prohibited from mooring to the shore in a manner that any part or accessory is 70 meters or more from the shore, with the length of the deployed anchor chain/rope measured from the extreme point of the bow/stern of the vessel to the point on the sea surface where the anchor chain/rope enters the water."

Along with the response, the Ministry provided a graphic representation of the spatial plan of the Lumbarda municipality, confirming that the anchoring location falls within the designated zone for that purpose.
