In the village of Vodena Draga, in the municipality of Bosiljevo, a powerful explosion occurred in a family home on Monday, August 3, 2026, injuring three people. According to the Karlovac Police Department, a 20-year-old man activated an as-yet-unknown explosive device inside the house.
Sources give differing times for the explosion: initial police reports place it around 5:45 PM, while other sources suggest it happened just before 6 PM. At the moment of the detonation, the father and his two sons, both in their early twenties, were inside the house.
The detonation was so powerful that it nearly destroyed the house entirely. The explosion blew out two opposite walls, scattering furniture and building materials around the area. The shockwave was so strong that even the windshields of nearby cars were shattered.
Residents of Vodena Draga described the moment of the explosion as terrifying. "Like an earthquake!" neighbors told 24sata, while others said that "everything shook as if in an earthquake."
Emergency medical teams arrived at the scene very quickly. The most seriously injured was the 20-year-old, who is suspected of having activated the device. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted by helicopter to Dubrava University Hospital in Zagreb.
His father and the other son were taken to Karlovac General Hospital, where they received medical treatment. An official assessment of the severity of their injuries has not yet been released.
The Karlovac Police Department has announced that an investigation will be conducted at the scene, followed by further criminal investigation. Investigators cannot yet confirm what type of explosive device was involved. Unofficial reports suggest the possibility of a hand grenade or some type of explosive, but concrete answers are expected only after the investigation and forensic examination of the scene are completed.
