Saturday Road Stampede: Kilometer-Long Queues on A1, A2, and Krk Bridge

Saturday, August 7, 2026, brought major congestion on Croatian roads. According to the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK), drivers are facing kilometer-long queues on highways towards Zagreb and Slovenia, as well as on the Krk Bridge, with additional difficulties caused by roadworks and strong winds along the coast.
On the A1 highway, before the Demerje toll plaza in the direction of Zagreb, a queue about one kilometer long has formed. There is also stop-and-go traffic between the Ogulin and Karlovac interchanges. Additionally, due to a traffic accident between the Novigrad and Karlovac interchanges, traffic in that section is reduced to one lane.
The situation is no better on the A2 highway. At the Trakošćan toll plaza, heading towards Slovenia, the line of vehicles stretches approximately 1.5 kilometers. Due to heavy traffic, the Frukov Krč tunnel is occasionally closed, and trucks and buses are not allowed to pass between Đurmanec and Krapina in both directions while this lasts.
On the A3 highway, traffic is also slow: from the Lučko interchange to Zagreb west, towards Bregana, and from Lučko to Zagreb east, towards Lipovac.
Significant delays are also being recorded at the Bajakovo border crossing. Trucks are in a queue of about two kilometers, and cars are waiting in a line about one kilometer long.
On the A7 highway, before entering Istria, at the exit from the Učka interchange towards Istria and Opatija, traffic is moving slowly. On the Istrian Y, between the Učka tunnel and the Matulji interchange, in the direction of Rijeka, vehicles are more densely spaced.
Major congestion has also been reported on the Krk Bridge and on state road DC102, where a queue extends from Omišalj to the Šmrika roundabout towards the mainland.
State roads are not spared either. On DC1 between Knin and Gračac, near the village of Otrić, traffic is slowed due to roadworks. On the Adriatic Highway (DC8), passing through Poljica, traffic is moving with temporary changes due to an accident.
HAK advises drivers that, due to strong winds on the coast, restrictions have been introduced for certain types of vehicles. They urge all road users to drive according to conditions, maintain a safe distance between vehicles, and be prepared for delays, especially at toll booths, tunnels, and rest areas.
