Suspected Neglect of Donkeys on Kornati Islands

Donkeys that were on the islet of Kurba Mala in the Kornati archipelago have been moved to a safe location after a report was received regarding suspected neglect. The operation was carried out on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and the news was confirmed by the Municipality of Murter-Kornati.

Rapid Response After Report

Immediately upon receiving information about the potential endangerment of animal welfare, a joint rescue operation was organized. Participants included municipal police officers, members of the Poprug Association for the Protection and Preservation of Tradition from Sukošan, and officials from Kornati National Park.

Kornati National Park provided a vessel to transport the donkeys to their new location, demonstrating logistical readiness for such emergencies in the protected area.

New Home on Piškera Island

The animals were transported to Piškera Island, where the Piškera family farm (OPG Piškera) has taken full care of them. According to the Municipality, the donkeys have been provided with all necessary conditions for a quality life at the new location, including regular supplies of water, food, and necessary veterinary care.

The Municipality of Murter-Kornati expressed gratitude to all participants in the operation. They particularly highlighted the Poprug association for its rapid response and direct assistance on the ground, Kornati National Park for logistical support, and OPG Piškera for accepting the animals without hesitation and providing them with a safe haven.
