Poland's Iga Swiatek, currently ranked eighth in the world, played a near-perfect match in the third round of the WTA 1000 event in Toronto, defeating Swiss player Viktorija Golubic 6-2, 6-1. It took her just 66 minutes to secure a spot in the round of 16.
Swiatek, the seventh seed, allowed no surprises against the world No. 51, dominating from the first point to the last.
In a match between two Russian players, Diana Shnaider (WTA - 17) defeated Anna Kalinskaya (WTA - 21) 6-3, 6-3 in 77 minutes. Shnaider thus confirmed her favorite status and advanced to the next round.
Ekaterina Alexandrova (WTA - 19), on the other hand, had to show character. After losing the first set, she managed to turn the match around against Australia's Talia Gibson (WTA - 74), winning 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
