Šubićevac Stadium in Šibenik was too small last night for all those who wanted to experience the return of Marko Perković Thompson. After a full 13 years away, the musician delivered a memorable concert on Monday, August 4, 2026, drawing more than 27,000 people. Aerial photos shared by his team on Facebook show a packed stadium and a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the summer night.

"For the Homeland, victory, and unity - Greetings from Šibenik," reads the message accompanying the photos, which bear witness to the incredible atmosphere and togetherness of thousands of attendees.

Concert Opened by a Legend

As he had announced, Thompson opened the concert with "Bojna Čavoglave," continuing a tradition that spans three decades. "As part of the Operation Storm commemoration, I have opened every concert since 1995 with 'Bojna Čavoglave,' and this year in Šibenik will be no different," the musician wrote on Facebook ahead of the performance. "For me, that song symbolizes the time when we defended, protected, and liberated Croatia during the Operation Storm military-police action."

Following the powerful opening, he performed "Anica, kninska kraljica," and addressed the crowd with heartfelt words. "Praised be Jesus and Mary, once again I greet you, dear friends. It's great to be in Šibenik today, and it's especially wonderful to see you all in such high spirits, so joyful. We know what Šibenik meant during the Homeland War," he said, as reported by Dnevno.hr.

Tribute to Comrades and the Fallen

A particularly moving moment of the evening came when Thompson greeted his comrades from the reconnaissance-demolition squad of the legendary 134th Drniš Brigade of the Croatian Army from the stage. "You know, dear friends, after the Battle for Šibenik, when this city slept peacefully, they were the ones guarding it," he said. Visibly emotional, he added: "So much has passed; surely both you and I would wish that those who are no longer with us were here, so we who are alive will always fondly remember and cherish their memory."

Not hiding his emotion, he admitted at one point: "The emotions are getting a bit choked up." Nevertheless, the evening was dedicated to joy and unity. "It's a time for celebration; tonight we've come here to celebrate," he said before performing "Bog i Hrvati," and the crowd proudly highlighted the large number of young people in attendance.
