Požega-Slavonia police recorded 96 violations in a weekend operation, while Koprivnica-Križevci begins a week-long speed enforcement drive under the ROADPOL plan.
Croatian police have intensified traffic enforcement across the country, focusing on tackling the four main killers on the roads: alcohol, speeding, failure to wear seat belts, and mobile phone use. While one county has just concluded a weekend operation with alarming figures, another has announced the start of a week-long intensified speed control.
Požega-Slavonia police conducted an intensified traffic enforcement operation over the past weekend. The results reveal a concerning picture of driver behavior on the county's roads. In just two days, officers recorded a total of 96 traffic violations.
By far the most common violation was speeding, with 59 cases recorded. This was followed by 23 violations for not wearing a seat belt, indicating that a significant number of drivers and passengers continue to disregard basic safety measures.
The highest speed was measured on Friday, July 31, 2026, at around 8:35 a.m. on the road between Kutjevo and Vetovo. An unidentified driver of a passenger car was traveling at 150 km/h, which is 60 km/h above the permitted limit. For this serious violation, a fine of 660 euros is prescribed, and the driver will be issued a notice of the committed offense.
Another serious incident occurred on Saturday, August 1, 2026, in Pleternica. At around 9:45 p.m., police officers stopped a 31-year-old driver of a truck. The driver refused to undergo a preliminary drug test, as well as subsequent blood and urine sampling for analysis.
Due to refusing the test, the driver faces a fine of 1,320 euros and a protective measure prohibiting him from driving B-category vehicles for a period of three months.
While results are being tallied in Slavonia, the operation is just beginning in the north of the country. In the area of the Koprivnica-Križevci Police Administration, from August 3 to 9, 2026, an intensified speed enforcement will be conducted. The operation is carried out in accordance with the action plan of the international organization ROADPOL.
The goal of this week-long initiative is to reduce the number of traffic accidents and casualties, as well as to consistently sanction violations of the provisions of the Road Traffic Safety Act.
