Police officers recorded the highest blood alcohol concentration in traffic in the Ploče area last week. On Sunday, August 2, 2026, shortly after 9 PM, they attempted to stop a passenger vehicle with Daruvar license plates on a local road near the Neretva River mouth, but the driver did not stop when signaled.
Instead, he continued driving south. The officers quickly caught up with the vehicle and determined that the driver was a 33-year-old Australian citizen.
A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 2.49 g/kg. Further checks showed that the man did not possess a driver's license, meaning he had never passed the driving test for the category of vehicle he was operating.
Due to multiple violations of the Road Traffic Safety Act, the 33-year-old was arrested. During the day on August 3, 2026, he will be brought before the competent Municipal Court in Metković along with a criminal complaint.
According to police information, the driver initially ignored the signals given by the police officer when attempting to stop him on the local road near the Neretva River mouth in the city of Ploče. Only after being caught up with was he subjected to a check.
