Tragedy in Botinec: Three Young People Killed

A serious traffic accident that occurred on Wednesday evening in Zagreb's Botinec neighborhood claimed three lives. In Dr. Luje Naletilića Street, a 35-year-old female driver of a Mazda passenger car veered off the road and struck a concrete pillar, splitting the vehicle in two.
According to the Zagreb Police Department, the woman was driving a Mazda whose registration and license plates had expired last year. She was heading northeast, and two passengers, aged 29 and 48, were in the car with her. When she reached the address at number 85, the driver lost control of the vehicle, veered onto soft ground, and collided forcefully with a concrete electricity grid pillar.
The force of the impact was so devastating that the car broke into two parts. The 48-year-old passenger died at the scene from his injuries. The other two occupants were rushed to Zagreb hospitals: the 29-year-old was taken to the Sisters of Mercy University Hospital Center, while the driver was taken to Zagreb University Hospital Center. Despite doctors' efforts, both later succumbed to their severe injuries.
The on-site investigation was led by the deputy county state attorney in Zagreb, with assistance from Zagreb police. Due to the investigation, traffic on Naletilića Street was completely closed from 10 p.m. until 3 a.m., with diversions in place. The bodies of all three victims were sent for autopsy to the Zagreb Institute of Forensic Medicine and Criminology, and the police continue their criminal investigation to clarify all circumstances of the accident.
