One person was killed and two others received medical assistance in a serious traffic accident that occurred on Monday, August 3, 2026, in the very center of Split. At 2:35 PM, the accident happened at the intersection of Croatian Navy Street and Ante Starčević Street.
All emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene upon the report. An investigation is currently underway, led by the deputy county state attorney, with the aim of clarifying all circumstances and causes of this tragedy.
According to the Split-Dalmatia Police Department, three passenger vehicles were involved in the collision. However, some media outlets, such as Danas.net.hr, reported that two passenger cars collided, so the data on the number of vehicles differs.
Traffic on the mentioned section is moving with physical regulation by police officers. Since 4:18 PM, due to the investigation, traffic has been closed on part of the right lane in the direction from Poljud towards Domovinskog rata Street. According to Totalinfo.hr, the section of Croatian Navy Street is closed, while Novi list and 24sata state that it is the section of Matice hrvatske Street. Vehicles are being redirected to surrounding routes, namely Ante Starčević Street and Lička Street.
