On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, three separate fires broke out within just 12 hours in the Zagreb and Dugo Selo areas. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in any of them, confirmed the Zagreb Police Department. The causes of the fires at all locations remain unknown, and police investigations are yet to be conducted.
The most dramatic event occurred in the afternoon when a fire broke out in several row houses around 1:40 PM. Although sources do not fully agree on the exact location, Jutarnji list reports it was on the embankment in Zagreb's Borovje neighborhood, while Prigorski.hr mentions Avenija Marina Držića in Trnje. In addition to the buildings, whose owners are currently unknown, a Mercedes Sprinter van with Zagreb license plates, owned by a 30-year-old man, was also engulfed in flames.
Zagreb firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and rescued one person from the burning house. Meanwhile, police stated:
- The investigation will be conducted once conditions allow -as the question of what caused the fire remains unanswered. In the meantime, residents of the neighborhood are coming together to provide donations to help those who lived there. They affectionately refer to the building as the 'Dinamo building' due to a graffiti on one of its walls.
The second fire broke out last night around 9 PM in the parking lot of a company. Again, locations differ: Jutarnji list reports Lončareva Street in Špansko, while Prigorski.hr mentions Josipa Lončara Street in Susedgrad. The fire consumed two parked company vehicles, a Renault Clio and an Opel Corsa, both with Zagreb license plates. No one was injured, and a police investigation should determine whether the cause was human error or something else.
The third fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, August 5, just after midnight on Josipa Zorića Street in Dugo Selo. Under unclear circumstances, an unused building owned by a 72-year-old man caught fire. The flames consumed trash and old wooden furniture. As with the previous two incidents, there were no injuries.
Police have announced that investigations at all three locations will be conducted as soon as conditions allow, in order to finally determine the causes of these fires.
