The Makarska HGSS Station, Imotski Volunteer Fire Department (DVD), and police officers from the Imotski Police Station successfully rescued a foreign national who fell ill on a hiking trail near Blue Lake in Imotski on Sunday afternoon. According to initial reports, the woman suffered heatstroke due to exhaustion and extremely high temperatures and was unable to return to the nearest road on her own.
The report about the injured tourist was received via the County Center 112. Although sources differ on the exact date of the report, Tportal states that everything took place on August 3, while DalmacijaDanas specifies that the call was made a day earlier, on August 2, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
Eight rescuers from the Makarska HGSS Station, four members of the Imotski DVD, and two police officers from the Imotski Police Station were dispatched to the intervention. Upon reaching the injured woman, the rescuers provided first aid and transported her to the nearest road. The operation was successfully completed at 3:10 PM, with the injured woman handed over to the Emergency Medical Services team.
The Makarska HGSS Station once again appealed to citizens and tourists to avoid outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day during periods of high temperatures.
"Plan your activities for the morning or evening hours, bring sufficient amounts of water, protect yourself from the sun, and adjust your plans to weather conditions and your own abilities," they urged from the Makarska HGSS Station.
