In these collisions, a total of 24 people sustained injuries. Six participants suffered severe physical injuries, while 18 sustained minor injuries. Total material damage reached 236,960 euros.

Foreign Nationals and Pedestrians Among Those Involved

Among those involved in the accidents were 39 foreign nationals and two pedestrians. Alcohol was a factor in four traffic accidents. During intensified surveillance, police breathalyzed 300 drivers.

The results showed that 48 drivers had an alcohol concentration above the legal limit of 0.50 g/kg, while two drivers were found with a concentration up to that value. Three drivers refused testing.

Most Drunk Drivers Are Over 35

Statistics by age group reveal a concerning trend. The largest number of drivers under the influence of alcohol, as many as 34, were over the age of 35. This is followed by the 25 to 35 age group with 13 drivers, while the youngest category, 18 to 25, recorded six drivers.

20-Day Jail Sentence for Repeat Offender with 3.14 Promille

The most drastic case was recorded on Friday, July 31, 2026. Around 10 p.m. in the town of Ika, a police patrol stopped a 46-year-old Croatian citizen who was driving a passenger vehicle with Rijeka license plates in the direction of Opatija. He was measured at a staggering 3.14 promille of alcohol in his blood, and it was also determined that he was driving without a driver's license.

The driver was immediately arrested. Further checks revealed that he was a repeat offender whose license had previously been revoked due to accumulated negative penalty points and failure to undergo an extraordinary medical examination. After being held at the police station until the intoxicating substance wore off, he was brought before the Municipal Court in Rijeka the very next day. The competent misdemeanor judge issued a final verdict sentencing him to 20 days in prison, along with an obligation to undergo treatment for alcohol addiction in a specialized institution.
