California authorities arrested 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele at a golf course owned by President Donald Trump, just two days before the U.S. president was scheduled to arrive in the state for a Republican Party fundraising dinner. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, August 2, 2026, at the Trump National course in Rancho Palos Verdes, in the greater Los Angeles area.
The Los Angeles Police Department released details of the arrest on Tuesday, August 5, stating that the suspect was "observed walking the golf course, taking photographs and videos, and appearing to monitor security planning activities." Taele was found with a handgun and armor-piercing ammunition in his vehicle on the premises, and a magazine with 16 rounds was also discovered during the search.
Due to what they described as "potential security implications surrounding the incident," officials obtained a search warrant for Taele's home. There, according to investigators, they found an "illegally modified AR-platform rifle," a .45 caliber handgun, body armor, high-capacity magazines, and a large quantity of pistol and rifle ammunition. Multiple notebooks "containing troubling statements" were also found in the home, police reported.
The Los Angeles Police Department also revealed that the suspect was wanted by the nearby El Segundo Police Department in connection with a robbery. No additional details about that case were available at the time of reporting.
President Trump was not at the golf course at the time of the arrest. He is currently en route to California to attend a Republican Party fundraising dinner. It is unknown whether the incident has affected his visit plans, and there has been no official comment from the President's office so far.
