In the night of August 4-5, 2026, Russia launched a devastating combined attack on Kyiv and the Kyiv region, killing at least 14 people. Ukraine's state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, confirmed that bodies were found on a railway platform near the targeted logistics centers in the Brovary district, and traffic in the area has not yet been restored.
The attack began after midnight and lasted over an hour. The Kyiv military administration reported that seven locations in the city were hit hard. Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram that there are fears people may still be trapped under the rubble. Rescuers pulled two people from the debris of a warehouse near the city center.
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, 14 people were killed in the attack. The number of injured varies in reports: while Klix.ba reports 24 injured, Ukrainska Pravda, citing the same state service, lists 22 injured. Klitschko added that an ambulance driver is among the injured and that four people are in critical condition.
Ukrzaliznytsia stated that emergency services and repair crews continued working in the Brovary district after a "horrific night attack on logistics infrastructure in the Kyiv region." Early reports, they said, indicate that bodies were discovered on a railway platform in the immediate vicinity of the attacked logistics centers.
The company said that during the massive combined attack, transportation services and station operations were temporarily suspended, and staff and passengers were evacuated. They apologized to passengers for possible schedule disruptions and announced that additional information would be released once traffic on the affected section is restored.
On Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said it had targeted logistics hubs and supply centers in Kyiv and surrounding areas, claiming these locations are used for military purposes. Klitschko reported that the attack caused fires in warehouse facilities, and initial reports of a fire in a 20-story residential building proved inaccurate.
The Kyiv military administration also warned of an ammonia leak caused by the attack, which emergency teams are dealing with. Reuters witnesses heard explosions across the city, and Klitschko confirmed that air defense units were activated to repel the attack.
Russia has intensified attacks on Kyiv in recent weeks, with several incidents recorded over the past month. Meanwhile, Ukraine struck a logistics hub of Russian online retailer Wildberries, adding it to a list of more than ten similar facilities it has recently damaged. Both sides deny deliberately targeting civilians in the war that has been ongoing since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022.
