The new goalkeeper for the Whites highlighted his excellent relationship with coach Matjaž Kek, with whom he also worked in the Slovenian national team.
Igor Vekić officially became a new player for Rijeka on Wednesday. The experienced goalkeeper signed a contract with the club from Rujevica and immediately shared his first impressions, which, as he says, are more than positive.
Vekić did not hide his enthusiasm upon joining the ranks of the Whites. He is aware of the club's stature and the expectations that come with wearing the Rijeka jersey.
"Thank you all for the warm welcome; it's great to be a new player for Rijeka, which is a big club. This brings responsibility, but also positive pressure. Every player loves that because positive pressure brings out the best in you. My first impressions are excellent, and I can't wait to meet the team and the fans," Vekić stated.
An additional boost for the new Rijeka goalkeeper is his close acquaintance with coach Matjaž Kek. The two worked together while Kek served as the head coach of the Slovenian national football team. Vekić sees this experience as a major advantage in adapting to his new environment.
"The coach and I have known each other for a while, and that was an extra plus before coming to Rijeka. We have a good relationship, and I want to honor that and show it on the pitch," said Vekić.
Vekić's arrival represents a significant reinforcement for Rijeka in the goalkeeper position, and given his existing relationship with the coach, a quick integration into the team is expected.
