Spanish newspaper AS has published details of the demands Vinicius Junior presented during negotiations with Real Madrid over a contract extension. The Brazilian footballer, a key player for the club, has requested a net salary of €20 million per season, representing a significant increase compared to his current deal.
The process of extending his contract was interrupted after the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The last face-to-face meeting took place at the Valdebebas training ground while Xabi Alonso was still in charge. At that time, the two parties were very close to an agreement, but talks suddenly stalled in July 2025, despite the financial demands being nearly aligned.
According to AS, Vinicius significantly reduced his initial demands, which were around €30 million per year, during that meeting. Real Madrid, in turn, raised their offer, but neither side was willing to budge in the final stages.
The demand for €20 million net per season represents an increase of €5 million compared to the average of his last contract, signed in 2022. That document was only made public on October 31, 2023.
Under that deal, Vinicius signed for five seasons, until 2027, for a total of €75 million net. The contract is structured progressively: his salary started at around €10 million and increased to approximately €18 million in the final season. The contract also includes a bonus clause that grants him an additional €2 million per season after winning 'The Best' award or the Ballon d'Or.
The new round of negotiations brings additional complexities. A key sticking point is image rights, which make up a huge portion of the financial package. Vinicius, who works with 18 international brands, including Nike, Apple, Pepsi, Prada, and PlayStation, is pushing for a model similar to that of his teammate Mbappé, who retains nearly 100 percent of his rights. Additionally, given the contract's expiration, the player could also seek a signing bonus similar to what Mbappé received.
Vinicius's current contract expires in 2027, and from January, under FIFA rules, he can freely negotiate with other clubs. Despite this, information from his camp suggests he wants to stay at Real Madrid. Interestingly, the club has already signed Diomande, a player whose agent is also Frederico Pena, which some interpret as a sign that Vinicius's future is already broadly defined.
All remaining uncertainties should be resolved at a meeting that will soon take place between the player, coach Mourinho, and the club's management.
