Vir Prepares Two-Day Spectacle for Operation Storm Anniversary

The destination management company Vir turizam and the Vir Tourist Board, sponsored by the Municipality of Vir, are organizing a two-day program to commemorate the 31st anniversary of the military-police operation Storm, as well as Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and the Day of Croatian Defenders.
The celebration begins on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, when at 11 a.m. a delegation from the Municipality of Vir, county and municipal councilors, representatives of municipal companies and institutions, and Vir's veterans will gather at the Central Cross in the Vir cemetery. On this occasion, they will lay a wreath and light candles in memory of all those who died in the Homeland War and all fallen Croatian defenders.
The second day of the celebration, Wednesday, August 5, moves to St. George's Square. From 8 p.m., visitors will be offered free portions of wild game goulash. An hour later, at 9 p.m., a concert by the band Maligani begins, known for hits such as "Od Iloka do Londona," "Gdje se pali?" and "Konobari i svirači."
The entire program concludes at 11 p.m. with a spectacular fireworks display that will illuminate the Vir sky.
