Crew Commander Describes Heightened Sense of Responsibility: 'The Responsibility Was Greater'
Military pilots of the Croatian Air Force carried out a dramatic emergency medical evacuation of a critically ill pregnant woman from Dubrovnik General Hospital to the Split University Hospital Center on Thursday evening, August 6, 2026.
The Ministry of Defense announced that the Mi-171Sh helicopter crew took off from the "Knez Trpimir" barracks in Divulje immediately upon receiving the request for urgent transport. During the flight, the woman was monitored by two members of the medical team, and she was transported to the Split hospital in the shortest possible time, where she received further medical care.
The mission was carried out by a four-member crew from the 395th Transport Helicopter Squadron of the 93rd Wing of the Croatian Air Force. The crew commander, whose name has not been released, commented on the gravity of the task for Net.hr.
"The responsibility was greater," said the crew commander, adding that every emergency medical flight carries a heavy responsibility, but that when helping a mother and her unborn child, that feeling is even more intense.
The Ministry of Defense emphasized that this operation once again demonstrates how ready and skilled Croatian Air Force members are in moments when time is critical for saving lives.
