In a traffic accident that occurred on Monday, August 3, 2026, at approximately 8:15 PM in the village of Uljanik near Garešnica, a 33-year-old truck driver was killed. This was reported by the Bjelovar-Bilogora Police Department on Friday, August 7, 2026.
According to the police statement, the driver was operating a truck with Vukovar license plates, traveling through Uljanik in the direction of Blagorodovac. After exiting a right-hand curve, he failed to adjust his speed to the road's characteristics, conditions, and visibility, leading to a loss of control over the vehicle. The truck then struck an earthen access bridge used for entering agricultural land with its front right side.
Personnel from the Garešnica Public Fire Brigade arrived at the scene, along with an emergency medical team that pronounced the driver dead at the scene. The investigation conducted by officers from the Garešnica Police Station revealed a crucial detail: the driver was not wearing the vehicle's seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The on-duty deputy county state attorney in Bjelovar ordered an autopsy to determine the exact circumstances of the fatality. The police are continuing their investigation into this serious traffic accident.
