A serious traffic incident occurred on the A1 motorway on Friday morning. The driver of a heavy goods vehicle with Bulgarian license plates made a U-turn at the Demerje toll station and continued driving in the wrong direction, causing a traffic accident in the process. According to information from Slobodna Dalmacija, the police received the report at around 8:30 AM.
U-Turn and Hit-and-Run
As reported by the Zagreb Police Department, the 40-year-old Bulgarian national was initially driving northbound. When he reached the Demerje toll station, just before the toll booths, he performed a U-turn with his truck and headed in the opposite direction, southbound, despite it being prohibited.
Just a few hundred meters after the turn, he was involved in a traffic accident that resulted only in material damage. Despite the collision, he did not stop but continued his dangerous drive all the way to the Zdenčina junction.
Stopped and Given Medical Assistance
At the Zdenčina junction, he was stopped by patrol officers from Croatian Motorways, after which police officers also arrived at the scene. When the police arrived, the driver requested medical assistance and was subsequently taken to the Sestre milosrdnice University Hospital Center.
The police conducted an on-site investigation. Once medical treatment was completed, a criminal investigation will be conducted into the 40-year-old driver to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.
