Due to alarmingly low blood supplies, the Bjelovar Red Cross is organizing an extended voluntary blood donation drive that will take place over four days in August. The goal is to collect as many units as possible to help those most in need of blood.
The drive will be held from August 11 to 14, 2026 at the Bjelovar Red Cross premises, located at Ulica 108. puka 1. Donors can give blood each day between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The Red Cross emphasizes that this is a simple and safe procedure through which every individual can make a significant difference, as one unit of blood can save multiple lives.
Excellent Turnout in Vinkovci and Stari Jankovci
That citizens are ready to help is confirmed by recent drives in eastern Croatia. The Vinkovci City Red Cross Society organized a drive on August 3, 2026, in cooperation with the Clinical Institute for Transfusion Medicine of the Osijek University Hospital Center. 57 people responded, and ultimately 50 individuals donated blood, including 35 men and 15 women. Particularly encouraging is the fact that five people-three men and two women-donated blood for the first time.
On the same afternoon, a drive was held at the Community Center in Stari Jankovci. In just two hours, 32 people donated blood, including 25 men and 7 women. Four individuals were deferred to the next drive, and one woman donated blood for the first time.
"We thank all blood donors for their humanity and generosity in saving the lives of the sick or injured, and for readily responding despite the extreme heat and joining the 'lifeline of life'," said the Vinkovci City Red Cross Society.
Križevci Donate Blood and Announce New Date
In Križevci, a two-day blood donation drive is also underway. The second day of the drive takes place today, August 4, 2026, at the KTC motel, and all interested donors can give blood until 1:00 PM. The organizer is the Križevci City Red Cross Society in cooperation with the Croatian Institute of Transfusion Medicine. Those who cannot make it today will have another opportunity in early September 2026, when the next drive is scheduled.
