As passengers adapt to the new ticket inspection equipment, two key tram routes have been idle for a month, with weeds slowly overtaking the tracks.
Zagreb residents are currently facing a dual challenge in public transport. While inspectors have appeared on tram lines with brand-new devices for issuing fines and confirmations, two of the city's vital transport arteries-the tracks on Zvonimirova and Vukovarska streets-have been completely suspended due to construction works. The new practice by ZET inspectors was also noticed by 42-year-old Zagreb resident Ana, who witnessed one of the first inspections with the new equipment on Monday. According to her description, inspectors now print confirmations and fines on the spot using new portable devices.
"The inspector took the transit card from a young woman and repeatedly apologized, saying they had received new devices and were still learning how to use them. It turned out there was some issue with her card, and the device printed out a slip. They advised her to contact ZET to resolve it," Ana told Zagreb.info.
Although the situation caused discomfort for the passenger who received the printed confirmation, Ana notes that the inspectors were extremely professional. "The young woman got a bit upset; you could see she was embarrassed. However, the inspectors were genuinely very kind and invited her to sort it out," she added.
It is not yet known whether all inspectors have received the new devices or what functionalities they bring to daily ticket inspections, but their implementation in Zagreb's public transport has clearly already begun.
While passengers get used to the changes on trams, two important routes have no tram service at all. The track replacement works on Zvonimirova Street, up to Heinzelova, are expected to last until September, which is why trams are not running to the Borongaj turnaround. At the same time, traffic has been halted on Vukovarska Street, from Savska to Držićeva.
As shown in photographs published in Večernji list, the stops and tracks have become somewhat neglected. Grass has begun to 'occupy' the space between the rails and at the tram stops themselves, creating a scene that starkly contrasts with the bustling city traffic Zagreb residents are accustomed to.
