The Karlovac Police Department released details of a serious traffic accident that occurred on Monday, August 10, in Rakovac Street in Karlovac. The investigation determined that a 71-year-old female driver of a passenger vehicle with Karlovac license plates struck a 74-year-old male pedestrian on a marked crosswalk.
The accident occurred at 11:05 AM when the driver, according to police, approached the crosswalk at a speed that was not safe, nor adjusted to road conditions. As a result, she struck the pedestrian who was crossing the street on the zebra crossing.
In the collision, the 74-year-old man sustained serious bodily injuries. "In the traffic accident, the pedestrian was seriously injured, and a criminal report will be filed against the driver with the competent state attorney's office," stated the Karlovac police for Kaportal.
This accident was one of four traffic accidents recorded by the Karlovac Police Department in the past 24 hours. In addition to this one with a seriously injured person, there were three other accidents with material damage only.
On the same day, a citizen in Karlovac, while cleaning an attic, stumbled upon a veritable small arsenal. He immediately notified the police, who took possession of as many as 357 pieces of various ammunition and six magazines for an automatic rifle. The found items have been stored and will be destroyed during the next organized destruction.
This event prompted the police to reiterate their appeal to citizens as part of the "Less Weapons, Less Tragedies" campaign. "We call on citizens to anonymously and without any sanctions, as part of the 'Less Weapons, Less Tragedies' campaign, return weapons, ammunition, and mine-explosive devices they find or possess. By calling 192, take the first step and thus contribute to safety," said the Karlovac Police Department.
In addition to the aforementioned traffic accidents, seven criminal offenses were recorded in the area of the Karlovac Police Department in the past 24 hours. Two misdemeanors of disturbing public order and peace were also recorded, in Ogulin and Ozalj.
