Drivers on Croatian highways can expect numerous slowdowns and roadworks today. According to the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) report published on August 17, 2026, on the A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway, the carriageway towards Lipovac between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad junctions (from km 12+480 to km 15+300) will be closed until October 3, 2026.
Due to these works, traffic on this section will be diverted to two-way operation using narrowed lanes, with two lanes in each direction towards Bregana. HAK notes that, given the higher traffic intensity, there is a possibility of congestion and queues, especially during morning and afternoon hours, as well as throughout the day on weekends.
On the A2 Zagreb-Macelj motorway, queues are being reported. Before the Trakošćan toll station in the direction of Zagreb, the queue is about 1 km long, and at the Zagreb zapad junction, at the entrance to Zagreb, about 2 km. On the A2, driving is also restricted to one lane in two sections: from km 17+500 to km 13+750 towards Macelj (Krapina-Đurmanec section) and from km 6+700 to km 8+200 towards Zagreb (Trakošćan-Đurmanec section).
On the A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići motorway, there is a noticeable increase in vehicle inflow before the Lučko toll station towards the coast, with heavy traffic extending all the way to Bosiljevo. On the Zagreb bypass (A3), traffic density is increased between the Zagreb zapad junction and the Lučko junction towards Lipovac, and between the Zagreb istok junction and the Kosnica junction towards Bregana.
Additionally, until September 1, 2026, on the A3 between the Popovača and Kutina junctions (from km 90+700 to km 93+800) towards Lipovac, drainage rehabilitation is underway. Traffic there is moving through two narrowed lanes, and due to higher vehicle intensity, congestion and queues are possible, especially on Fridays.
On the A4 Goričan-Zagreb motorway, traffic density is higher between the Popovec junction and the Zagreb istok junction towards Zagreb. During morning and afternoon hours, driving will also be slower on the Rijeka bypass and on city roads.
According to HAK's traffic forecast for August 17, 2026, roads across the country will be wet and slippery, with localized flooding possible. Due to locally heavy rainfall, there is an increased risk of landslides on roads in mountainous areas. Increased passenger and freight traffic is also expected at certain border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro.
HAK advises drivers to adjust their speed and driving style to road conditions, and to pay attention to the safety distance between vehicles, especially in work zones, tunnels, junctions, rest areas, toll stations, and approaches to tourist destinations.
