The Croatian Automobile Club has issued a detailed report on roadworks, extraordinary events, and traffic forecast for August 17, 2026.
The Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) on Monday released a report on road conditions, bringing a range of important information for drivers across Croatia. The most significant change concerns the A3 motorway Bregana-Lipovac, where due to roadworks, the carriageway in the direction of Lipovac is closed between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad interchanges, from km 12+480 to km 15+300. The closure lasts until October 3, 2026, and traffic is being diverted to two-way operation on the carriageway towards Bregana, with two narrowed lanes in each direction.
HAK notes that on this section, given the higher volume of vehicles, there is a risk of queues and congestion, especially during morning and afternoon hours, as well as throughout the weekend. Drivers are advised to be patient and plan their journeys in advance.
In addition to the main closure, on the A3 until September 1, drainage rehabilitation is underway on the section between the Popovača and Kutina interchanges in the direction of Lipovac, from km 90+700 to km 93+800. Traffic there is moving in two narrowed lanes, and HAK warns of possible delays, especially on Fridays. Until August 31, the Kraljeva Velika north and south rest areas are closed in both directions.
On the A4 motorway Goričan-Zagreb, until August 30, roadworks are ongoing on the section Zagreb istok-Popovec, between km 95 and km 91+800. In the direction of Goričan, traffic is moving in both directions, with two narrowed lanes open towards Zagreb and one narrowed lane towards Goričan. The speed limit on this section is 80 km/h, and all ramps at the Zagreb istok and Sesvete interchanges remain fully operational.
On the A1 motorway Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići, a wild boar was spotted at km 60+000, between the Novigrad and Bosiljevo 1 interchanges. Vehicles are moving in both directions through two traffic lanes, with a maximum permitted speed of 80 km/h. Before the Lučko toll station in the direction of the coast, a higher influx of vehicles is being recorded, with increased traffic density extending to Bosiljevo. On the A3, towards the Lučko toll from the direction of Buzin, the queue is about 2 kilometers long.
On the A2 motorway Zagreb-Macelj, before the Trakošćan toll in the direction of Zagreb, there is also an increased influx of vehicles. Traffic is moving only in the driving lane on the sections Krapina-Đurmanec towards Macelj (from km 17+500 to km 13+750) and Trakošćan-Đurmanec towards Zagreb (from km 6+700 to km 8+200).
Until September 5, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM, an exceptional transport is taking place on the route from the Karamatići checkpoint (A1) to the Bisko interchange (A1). In the zone of the Županja interchange, from August 3 to September 2, during four night periods between 10:00 PM and 4:00 AM, there will be short-term traffic stops due to the passage of exceptional transport.
HAK forecasts for Monday driving on wet and slippery roads across the country, with possible localized flooding. In mountainous areas, there is an increased risk of landslides due to locally heavy rainfall. During morning and afternoon hours, slower traffic is expected on city roads and bypasses, especially on the Zagreb (A3) and Rijeka bypasses, on the A2 near the Zagreb zapad interchange towards Zagreb, and on the A4 between the Popovec and Zagreb istok interchanges.
Heavier traffic is expected on routes connecting the coast with the interior, and occasional delays and queues may occur at roadworks sites, in tunnels, at interchanges, rest areas, and toll stations, as well as on roads leading to tourist destinations. At certain border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro, an increased number of passenger and freight vehicles is expected. Due to bad weather, changes in ferry and ship schedules are possible, as well as disruptions on some maritime lines.
