Bosnian international footballer Amar Dedić (23) is one step away from a major transfer to the English Premier League. Just a year after joining Benfica, the young right-back is close to moving to Newcastle United, with the deal potentially worth around €33 million.
According to information published on the night of August 11-12, 2026, by The Article, Newcastle is in the final stages of finalizing the transfer. Dedić has reportedly already agreed on financial terms and verbally accepted a multi-year contract with the 'Magpies'. Now, the clubs need to reach an agreement on the transfer fee.
Portuguese outlet Record reports that Dedić has accepted Newcastle's offer, but Benfica's final 'yes' is still pending. Although the media mentions a fee of around €33 million, sources differ in details. While The Article cites a figure of approximately £28 million, Klix.ba writes that Benfica is asking for €35 million, and Newcastle is willing to offer around €33 million. It is believed that the Portuguese club will eventually get the desired amount, including bonuses.
Newcastle coach Matthias Jaissle plays a significant role in the entire deal. As Record reports, he is the one insisting on bringing Dedić to St. James' Park. The two worked together successfully while Jaissle was in charge of Red Bull Salzburg, which evidently played a decisive role in the German coach's desire to have him in his squad again.
Dedić built his career through the Red Bull Salzburg system, and before joining Benfica, he had stints at Liefering, Wolfsberger, and Marseille. In the meantime, he has become a regular member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, for which he has scored one goal in 31 appearances.
