The light spectacle marking the 31st anniversary of Operation Storm gathered fans from Rijeka and the surrounding area, with the scene observed from both land and sea.
The Armada fan group from Rijeka staged a light spectacle on the Krk Bridge on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, paying tribute to fallen defenders on the 31st anniversary of the military-police operation Storm. With this act, they remembered the 222 defenders from the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County who gave their lives for the freedom of Croatia.
The torchlight event on the impressive bridge connecting the mainland to the island of Krk was held for the tenth consecutive year, making it a recognizable tradition in marking this important date from the Homeland War. Hundreds of torches illuminated the night sky, creating a striking scene that onlookers followed from both the shore and boats at sea.
In this way, the organizers wanted to honor each of the 222 fallen defenders from their county, symbolically lighting one torch for every lost life. The military-police operation Storm, whose 31st anniversary is being marked these days, was a key operation that liberated a large part of the occupied Croatian territory.
This year's commemoration once again showed how the memory of the sacrifice and contribution of Croatian defenders is passed on to new generations, and the Rijeka fans, with their unique performance, confirmed that the Homeland War and its values do not fade from collective memory.
