The summer enrollment period for secondary schools in Međimurje County sent a clear signal: vocational programs, especially technical ones, are attracting more students, while traditional gymnasiums are seeing a decline in interest. A total of 986 students were enrolled during the summer period, with 138 spots remaining for the fall enrollment period, as reported by eMeđimurje.

Technical School Čakovec the Absolute Winner

The greatest interest was for the Technical School Čakovec, which enrolled 231 students. In four-year programs such as computer technician, robotics and automation, internet technology, mechatronics, and mechanical engineering, all spots were filled, with 116 students enrolled.

Three-year programs were equally popular. For electricians and auto mechanics, 44 students were enrolled, and no spots remain. Due to high demand for auto mechanics, the initial plan for 24 students was increased to 32 enrolled.

Gymnasium Again Underfilled

A contrasting picture comes from the Josip Slavenski Gymnasium in Čakovec. In the general gymnasium program, spots were only filled after the enrollment quota was reduced by one class. Of the planned 130 students, 83 were enrolled. This trend of underenrollment in this school first appeared a few years ago.

In the science and mathematics gymnasium at the same school, 23 of the planned 28 spots were filled. In total, the Josip Slavenski Gymnasium had 186 spots during the summer period and enrolled 119 students.

Where Quotas Were Filled and Where Spots Remain

At the Čakovec Secondary School, programs filled included the general gymnasium with 52 students, pharmaceutical technicians with 26 students, and nurses or general care technicians with 26 students. At the Čakovec School of Economics, spots were filled in programs for agricultural technician, florist, hairdresser and beautician, fashion tailor, and motor vehicle driver. The Prelog Secondary School filled its programs for baker-pastry chef and assistant cook.
