On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, an unusual scene unfolded in Strossmayerova Street in Osijek when a car ended up sideways on the tram tracks, blocking the passage of trams. According to information from the scene, the vehicle slid out of its parking spot and came to a stop in such a way that it almost completely covered the rails with its length.
Footage from the scene shows the car standing perpendicular to the tracks, with numerous other cars parked nearby. Due to the obstruction on the rails, trams cannot continue their journey without interruption.
The situation should soon be resolved by the tow truck service, which is on its way to Strossmayerova Street. Once the vehicle is removed, tram traffic on that stretch is expected to return to normal.
There have been no reports of injuries so far, and it is not known whether the car sustained significant damage.
For the aforementioned violation, i.e., improper parking, Article 82, Paragraph 1, Item 3 of the Road Traffic Safety Act prescribes a fine of 30 euros. In addition to this fine, the cost of moving the vehicle by the tow truck service amounts to 133 euros.
If the vehicle on the tracks causes a disruption to tram traffic, as in this case, compensation must also be paid to GPP, the city's public transport operator. The final amount of compensation depends on the duration of the delay, the number of trams stopped, operational costs, and lost revenue.
