Ava Karabatić was admitted to the Emergency Center on Monday, August 10, 2026, with injuries she claims were inflicted by her ex-fiancé. The former reality TV contestant soon posted disturbing photos of her bruised face on Instagram, along with a lengthy statement detailing months of abuse and coercion she endured.
Escaped the Apartment and Went Straight to the Police
"I'm heading to the police from the ER right now, I managed to escape the apartment. My cheekbone is broken," Ava wrote in her Instagram post, describing that in recent months she has not suffered typical psychological and physical abuse, but rather "monstrous acts committed against my will." She cited sexual harassment, beatings, and other things she did not wish to describe publicly, adding that she was left without documents and had no one to rely on.
Forced to Film Explicit Videos
Particularly serious accusations concern the forced filming of pornographic content. Ava claims she does not have a profile on OnlyFans or similar platforms, but that videos were published against her will on free adult sites. "I was also forced to film. Anyone who watched those videos can tell from my behavior that I was forced, and if you turn up the sound, listen to what I'm whispering to him because I wasn't allowed to speak while filming: 'Turn it off, it hurts, don't exploit me, I have bruises,'" she recounted. She added that she did not receive "a single euro" from those recordings.
Four Months in a "Cage" Without Extensions
Describing the conditions she lived in, Ava revealed that for four months she has not had the hair extensions that were her trademark, does not visit hairdressers, and is locked "in a cage," with her food reduced to a minimum. She claims she was systematically brought to her lowest point so she could not return to Croatia and so that the pornographic recordings would drive away any normal men from her future life. "That's how psychopaths obviously operate. They destroy the victim in every possible way to get them as easy prey," she wrote.
Her Mother Blocked Her Because of the Videos
In the post, she also addressed her relationship with her mother, who, she claims, blocked her and cut off all contact after the controversial videos surfaced. "For the past year, you haven't been watching my real life, but clips of videos from a year ago and much more," Ava explained, adding that her mother probably hasn't even seen the recordings but heard stories because "in Split, it's obviously important 'who says what.'" Despite everything, she does not blame her mother and is grateful for the support she provided during her toughest moments battling alcoholism.
Plan for Escape: Embassy, Safe House, Then a Cleaning Job
Ava also revealed her plan to escape her situation. Her first destination is the embassy to get an ID card, then a safe house, and then finding a job, "even as a cleaner, that's no shame." She also remembered her late father, Ivica Karabatić, saying she will fight for him. "My father worked at Tisak for years, and I often came to help him in his last working period when he had back problems," she wrote, adding that she was an honor student in both high school and college.
She also addressed the fact that abuse victims on average return to their abuser five times before deciding to go to a safe house. "I decided to end this farce after the fourth time, because people can't change their nature; they can only pretend for a month or two, but their demons always surface," she concluded.
Sources Disagree: Reconciliation or Breakup?
While Ava claimed on Instagram that she had ended the relationship and was fighting for her life, Kurir.rs reports a statement from a source close to the couple claiming that a reconciliation occurred the same day. According to this source, after leaving the hospital, Ava sat down at a café near the Clinical Center, where her partner joined her. "They were drinking alcohol and arguing, and a friend came who was trying to reconcile them the whole time," the source told Blic, adding that they eventually made up and left the café together, after refusing to pay the bill. The two conflicting versions of events leave open the question of what really happened after Ava posted her harrowing accusations.
All the aforementioned accusations were made by Ava in her public post, while any eventual circumstances and responsibility for what she claims will be subject to proceedings by the competent institutions.
