Algerian striker Mounsef Bakrar (25) has officially ended his stint at GNK Dinamo. After just one season at Maksimir, the 25-year-old continues his career with Egyptian giants Al Ahly. The news was confirmed on Monday, August 10, 2026, by the Zagreb club on their social media channels.
"You thought we'd forgotten, but how could we forget 18 goals in a season? Now it's official: Mounsef Bakrar is no longer a GNK Dinamo player," the club announced, along with a message of thanks and best wishes for his new chapter.
Bakrar joined Dinamo at the start of last season from New York City FC in a transfer worth one million euros. In the blue jersey, he made 42 appearances, scored 18 goals, and added seven assists. He finished the season as the team's second-highest scorer, just behind Dion Drena Beljo, and clinched the domestic double-the league title and the cup.
Leaving Zagreb wasn't without emotion on Bakrar's part either. On his Instagram profile, he posted a heartfelt letter of thanks. "It's never easy to say goodbye to a place that became home," he wrote, thanking his teammates, coaches, and club staff for believing in him.
"Together we shared unforgettable moments, fought for this badge, and achieved something special by winning the double-the league and cup titles. To the fans, thank you for your incredible support, passion, and love from my first to my last day. Playing in front of you and representing this great club was an honor."
He concluded that he leaves with pride and gratitude, and that Dinamo and Zagreb will always hold a special place in his heart.
As Bakrar bids farewell, Dinamo's squad is already on the move toward new challenges. The club's official Twitter profile posted photos from the journey, with messages like "✈️ blue mode on, direction ➡️ 🇱🇹" and confirmation of landing in Lithuania, where a new match awaits.
