Bad news from Barcelona. Winger Roony Bardghji has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, the Catalan club confirmed on Tuesday. This is the second major setback for the 20-year-old talent, whose career was already marked by a serious knee injury in 2024.
Barcelona announced the news via social media platform X. "The player will undergo surgery in the coming days," the club's statement read. The young Swede is expected to be sidelined for a long period due to the new injury, which is a particularly heavy blow given his previous recovery.
In 2024, Bardghji suffered a serious knee problem during training that kept him out of football for nearly a year. Now he faces another battle with the same injury.
Born in Kuwait and representing Sweden internationally, Bardghji joined Barcelona last year from Copenhagen. He signed a contract running until June 2029. So far in his career with the Catalan giants, he has made 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing four assists.
He made his senior debut for Sweden last year and has since earned three caps, but the national team coach did not include him in the squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Barcelona, under coach Hansi Flick, are chasing a third consecutive La Liga title. They open their season on August 23 away to Elche, but it is clear they will not be able to count on Bardghji for those plans.
