The sixth Bembo Fest, the Festival of Small Stages of Independent Theatres, will offer the audience in Bale three free performances this week. The program includes the children's play "Thumbelina," the comedy "Coffee at Noon" by Teatar Gavran, and the musical "One Beautiful Bale Night." The organizer is Bale's Teatar Fort Forno.
On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 9 PM on Tomaso Bembo Square, the play "Thumbelina" will be performed as part of the Mali Bembo program aimed at the youngest audience. The Beli Manastir City Theatre and the artistic organization KD Ad Astra have co-produced this play.
Zoran Herman is credited with adapting Andersen's fairy tale, while the direction is by Danijela Taslidžić, who also appears in the cast.
At the same venue, Tomaso Bembo Square, on Thursday, August 20, 2026, also at 9 PM, Teatar Gavran will perform the comedy "Coffee at Noon." Miro Gavran is the author and director of this piece, with Mladena Gavran and Vedran Komerički on stage.
The plot focuses on the relationship between a mother and her son, whose life's ups and downs, as well as moments of sorrow and joy, we follow through their conversations over coffee and witty remarks.
On Friday, August 21, 2026, at 9 PM at Fort Forno, the last summer performance of the musical "One Beautiful Bale Night" by Marijana Nola, directed by Robert Raponja, will take place.
The performance is in English and features Anastasia Groshko, Juraj Devin, Lara Živolić Agaj, Davor Tarbuk, Jure Černeha, Lorenzo Radović, Ivor Lakić, and Domagoj Dobrila, who both sing and play instruments.
The conclusion of Bembo Fest is scheduled for September 3, 2026. The festival is supported by the Municipality of Bale, Valle, the Tourist Board of Bale, Valle, the company Mon Perin, the Istria County, the Ministry of Culture, the Austrian Cultural Forum, and the Italian Cultural Institute in Zagreb.
