Police caught a 32-year-old man riding a bicycle under the influence of alcohol in Donji Daruvar on Wednesday evening. The law prescribes a fixed fine for cyclists regardless of the concentration level.
On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at around 7:10 PM, police in Donji Daruvar caught a 32-year-old cyclist riding under the influence of alcohol. During a traffic control operation, he was measured at 3.12 promille of alcohol in his blood, one of the highest recorded values, according to reports from Bjelovar.live and Bjelovar Info.
Due to the extremely high alcohol level, the 32-year-old was taken to the police station and remained there until he sobered up. After that, a misdemeanor charge will be filed for cycling under the influence of alcohol.
And here's an interesting detail. The Road Traffic Safety Act prescribes a fine of 60 euros for cyclists riding with more than 0.50 g/kg of alcohol. So, even though the 32-year-old had 3.12 promille, a higher amount of alcohol for cyclists does not automatically mean a higher fine.
The final fine and misdemeanor will be decided by the competent authority. Riding a bicycle with 3.12 promille is certainly a great danger to traffic, although the legal fine in this case may seem surprisingly low.
