Ahead of the main event at the Sinj Alka, the Mayor of Sinj, Miro Bulj, issued sharp criticisms of the Government and the HDZ. In an interview with Dnevnik Nove TV reporter Dina Ćevid, Bulj called out the ruling party for eliminating health services in Sinj, unfulfilled pre-election promises, and issues with the municipal waste system.
He particularly highlighted the issue of the Sinj maternity ward, which he linked to the tradition of the Alka. "The very foundation of the Alka is birth. The Alka territory and those who wish to be alkars must be born to a mother from Sinj in the Sinj maternity ward. Otherwise, we violate the statute and tradition. So the minister and the prime minister, the entire Government, are directly attacking the Sinj Alka, and of course they'll come to have their pictures taken," Bulj said for Dnevnik Nove TV.
Bulj continued his criticism of the state of healthcare, emphasizing that the City of Sinj and the Cetinska krajina region deserve a general hospital. "When they come with a child to the Health Center, parents are hitting their heads against closed doors. They've taken away our laboratory services, so in the afternoon we have to go to Split," he said.
He also reminded of the HDZ's pre-election promises. "After all, they promised us during the election campaign, the HDZ, ministers with local authorities who mismanage our Alka, down to the governing Alka society-equally HDZ-a general hospital. They're mocking the people," Bulj stated.
When asked about higher waste collection prices, Bulj replied that prices in Sinj are the lowest in Croatia, but he pointed to a bigger problem. "The City of Sinj is not the owner of Čistoća. We have a much bigger problem caused by the Split-Dalmatia County-Boban and Šuta at the opening of Lećevica, where they will penalize the people of Sinj and the utility company because of their own inaction. They hired 90 people but didn't open it. Now we have a Naples scenario because of Tomislav Šuta," Bulj said.
