Niko Sigur, one of Hajduk's best players, has reportedly told the club he wants to leave, with Scottish side Celtic showing interest. The Canadian international is aware of the attention he has attracted from the former European champions and now expects the clubs to begin negotiations.
According to Večernji list, Sigur's desire to leave gives Celtic a clear opportunity to enter talks with Hajduk. The Split club reportedly wouldn't oppose the transfer either, as the Whites need to sell at least one player to ensure financial stability.
Transfermarkt values the Canadian at four million euros, but given that he still has two years left on his Hajduk contract, the fee would have to exceed that valuation.
Večernji list reports that Celtic will likely have to shell out more than five million euros to secure Sigur's signature. That shouldn't be a problem for the Scottish club, which recently sold regular starter Arne Engels for over 20 million euros.
Sigur is expected to fill the void in Celtic's midfield left by Engels' departure. He is a top target for experienced manager Martin O'Neill, who sits on the Celtic bench.
Sigur caught Celtic's eye with his impressive performances at the World Cup for Canada. He has spent his entire senior career at Hajduk, and now, it seems, he is ready for the next step in his career.
The Večernji list article also mentions a visit to Ivan Dodig's center in Međugorje, where the Croatian tennis player shared his life story, but that part is separate from the main topic of Sigur's potential transfer.
