Manchester City have officially unveiled their new addition between the posts. Argentine goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli has signed a two-year contract with the current English runners-up, marking his return to the club he was part of during the 2016/17 season, although he did not make a single first-team appearance back then.
This is not Rulli's first stint in Manchester. Nearly a decade ago, he was already under contract with the Citizens, but he never got the chance to play. Now he returns as a proven goalkeeper and World Cup winner, arriving from French side Marseille. Throughout his career, he has also played for Real Sociedad, Montpellier, Villarreal, and Ajax.
In the dressing room, he will be greeted by Croatian internationals Joško Gvardiol and Mateo Kovačić, who are regular members of Pep Guardiola's squad.
City have brought in Rulli as a backup for first-choice goalkeeper, Italian Gigi Donnarumma. The need for a new goalkeeper arose after talented Englishman James Trafford left the club to join Leeds. Rulli is expected to provide competition and cover in that position.
"I had to take this chance. When Manchester City calls, you don't turn it down," Rulli said upon signing the contract.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper also brings a winning mentality. With the Argentine national team, he won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and, two years later, the Copa América.
