Manchester City officially announced on Thursday, August 13, 2026, that they have extended the contract of Belgian winger Jérémy Doku. The new deal runs for five years and ties the 24-year-old to the Etihad club until the summer of 2031. His previous contract was set to expire in June 2028, and the current English runners-up confirmed the extension news.
Doku joined City in the summer of 2023 from Stade Rennais and has since established himself as one of the most exciting wingers in the Premier League. During his time at the Etihad so far, he has made 131 appearances and scored 22 goals, showcasing his versatility by playing on the left and right wings, as well as through the middle. Last season, Doku was, alongside Erling Haaland, the best player for the Manchester club.
His performances helped City secure five major trophies: the Premier League title, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the FA Community Shield. For the Belgian national team, Doku has earned 48 caps and helped his country reach the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
After signing the contract, Doku did not hide his delight. "I have enjoyed my time at City so far, so the opportunity to stay longer is a great feeling," said the Belgian international.
"This club means a lot to me. I have developed as a player and as a person. I feel at home here, and I know that I am getting better every day thanks to the work of the staff here," added Doku, and stressed: "It's hard to explain how much this club gives to help players. I don't take that for granted, and it makes me better."
Doku also touched on new coach Enzo Maresca, recently appointed to the Manchester City bench following the departure of Josep Guardiola. "With Enzo here, I am very excited for the new season. His style of football is what we love, and that's exciting for the players," he said. Additionally, he stated: "I am excited about the new beginning and I am confident that the new coach will suit us perfectly with his football vision."
He particularly emphasized the role of the fans in his decision to stay. "The City fans are also the main reason why I signed this new contract. I feel their love and support, and that means a lot to me. I want to focus on achieving the success they deserve," Doku concluded.
The first test for the new coach and Manchester City will be Sunday's Community Shield match against champions Arsenal. In the team that includes Croatian internationals Joško Gvardiol and Mateo Kovačić, a major change has taken place on the bench this summer.
