The criminal investigation known as the Sand Affair continues on Wednesday, with no official responses from the Slavonski Brod city administration regarding the documents investigators are reviewing.
Police officers are conducting investigations at the Slavonski Brod City Administration for the third consecutive day, and this morning's scene in the parking lot behind the city building confirms that the criminal investigation related to the Sand Affair is ongoing. The black Škoda, which has become an almost indispensable detail of the entire case in recent days, is again in its usual spot.
The operation is being carried out under the order of the County State Attorney's Office in Slavonski Brod, and the police confirmed to 035portal that they are conducting a criminal investigation. Due to the confidentiality of the proceedings, they did not want to disclose what exactly they are looking for, which documents they are reviewing, or who the checks are directed against.
Although there is no official information about the course of the investigation, unofficial sources from within the City Administration reveal that the scope of work for investigators is growing day by day. "Yesterday they were here again practically all day, staying until late afternoon. The papers they're asking for keep growing; things are constantly being brought in and prepared. And here they are again today," one employee, whose details are known to the editorial team, told 035portal.
It is impossible to independently verify claims about the volume and content of the documentation, nor should conclusions be drawn from them about what the police have uncovered or whether the criminal investigation will establish any irregularities. Nevertheless, one thing is clear even without unofficial information, the procedure that began three days ago is still ongoing.
While investigators review documents, the city's political leadership has not made any effort to address the public in detail about the situation. Mayor Mirko Duspara, whose administration finds itself at the center of the criminal investigation, has not come before journalists to explain what has been happening in the building he manages over the past three days. Public statements from his closest associates, including department head Ankica Majetić, are also absent.
035portal sent the City specific questions on the very first day of the operation, asking about the police action, any documents officers may have requested or seized, matters related to Monika j.d.o.o., and whether police officers spoke with Mayor Duspara, department head Majetić, or other city officials and employees. No response had arrived by the time of publication.
Responses also did not arrive from the other two addresses the editorial team contacted. The Institution for Managing Sports Facilities was asked about its role in the project, financing, ordering and receipt of materials, and any possible communication with Monika j.d.o.o. Additionally, a question was posed about former director Miroslav Stefanović, who left his position around the time the case began attracting public attention.
Monika j.d.o.o. also did not respond to inquiries about the value and manner of contracting for work at Vijuš, communication with city officials, and possible contacts with the police or prosecutor's office. The company also did not comment on allegations of any favoritism.
On the third day of the Sand Affair, answers are still awaited. The police, it seems, are not waiting, the piles of documentation are reportedly growing, and the black Škoda is again in its now-familiar spot behind the City Administration.
