A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a traffic accident that occurred on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 3:30 PM in Gospić, the Lika-Senj Police Department confirmed. The accident happened when a 24-year-old Croatian citizen, driving a passenger car from Gospić toward Perušić, failed to yield to an oncoming motorcycle while turning left.
The motorcycle, bearing Gospić license plates, was ridden by a 51-year-old Croatian citizen who fell onto the road after the collision. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was hospitalized at the Rijeka Clinical Hospital Center, while the car driver sustained only minor injuries.
Just a day later, on Monday, August 10, 2026, at around 11:50 AM, another traffic accident involving a car and a motorcycle occurred in the Lovrinac area. The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital by emergency medical services, and the extent of his injuries is not yet known. The accident caused major traffic jams on the overpass toward Stobreč, with police officers on the scene manually directing traffic until the investigation is completed.
The past weekend in the Lika-Senj Police Department area saw a total of 15 traffic accidents. In addition to the seriously injured motorcyclist in Gospić, there were two accidents with minor injuries, one each in the Senj and Novalja areas, in which a total of two people sustained minor injuries.
The remaining accidents resulted only in material damage, distributed across the towns: three each in Otočac, Novalja, and Senj, two in Korenica, and one in Gospić. The police once again appealed to all road users to obey traffic regulations to avoid the most severe consequences.
