An incredible and extremely dangerous scene was recorded on Tuesday afternoon on the Rijeka bypass. In the Facebook group "Traffic Problems, Rijeka and Surroundings," a video appeared showing a person on an electric scooter riding through a tunnel, surrounded by cars. The same video was later shared on its Facebook page by the portal Fiuman.hr.
Although the rider is wearing a protective helmet, the location itself constitutes a serious violation of traffic regulations. The road section through the tunnel on the Rijeka bypass is absolutely forbidden for scooters, and this offense carries a fine of 60 euros.
Interestingly, sources disagree on who exactly was operating the scooter. While Riportal describes the rider as a "child," 24sata reports that it was a "younger person." Regardless of age, the footage quickly sparked a wave of harsh comments from concerned citizens.
"They fine adults without a driver's license, while children ride on the roads. This needs to be strictly banned and punished," reads one of the comments posted below the video. Others pointed out that the problem is not isolated to Rijeka. "Unfortunately, Crikvenica is full of such cases. They ride as if they are alone on the road. One sped through the town so fast that I couldn't even take a photo, let alone record it," wrote one commenter.
This incident is yet another in a series that raises questions about the safety and responsibility of electric scooter riders in traffic, especially when minors are involved. Although scooters are becoming an increasingly popular mode of transport, their use in places where it is explicitly forbidden, such as fast urban bypasses and tunnels, poses a huge danger both to the riders themselves and to other road users.
