After a 2-2 draw against Viking in the Champions League qualifiers, Dinamo fans sharply criticized coach Mario Kovačević and players Mislav Oršić and Moris Valinčić.
Dinamo drew 2-2 against Norwegian side Viking in the first leg of the final Champions League qualifying round, and after the match, a wave of criticism from fans flooded the club's Facebook page. Particularly targeted were coach Mario Kovačević, club legend Mislav Oršić, and right-back Moris Valinčić.
Dinamo took the lead in the sixth minute with a goal from Dion Belja, and just four minutes later, Mateo Lisica made it 2-0. In the 26th minute, Peter Christiansen pulled one back, and Zlatko Tripić equalized in the 39th minute. There were no more goals in the second half, with the return leg scheduled for August 26 in Stavanger.
"We deserved to win, by at least a one-goal margin," said Dinamo coach Mario Kovačević after the match.
Dinamo fans had plenty to say in the comments after the match. Two players in particular came under fire: right-back Moris Valinčić and club legend Mislav Oršić, as well as coach Mario Kovačević.
"What has Oršić done to deserve playing almost the entire match? The man looks semi-professional," was one of the most-liked comments on the club's Facebook page.
Another fan wrote: "Having the very poor Valinčić play until the 84th minute, and Orša, who unfortunately is no longer good enough for the starting eleven, that's all down to the coach."
A third comment read: "Oršić could wrestle a bear, but he can't open a jar... Compared to Valinčić, Galešić is Maldini, yet he sits on the bench. Kovačević, same old story... nothing new."
One well-liked comment particularly targeted the coach: "Definitely, Dinamo's biggest problem isn't the goalkeeper, but coach Kovačević, who is limited and can't go beyond the HNL. He plays without any concept or vision against physically strong but technically limited players. Taking off the right winger and moving the worst player from the left wing to that position is, I don't know, insane."
Despite the criticism, GNK Dinamo thanked fans on their official Twitter account and announced upcoming matches: "Thank you for your fantastic support 💙🌌 On Saturday, Varaždin comes to Maksimir, and then we travel to Norway for a win worthy of the Champions League! Forward, blue lions! ➡️"
Dinamo will thus host Varaždin at Maksimir on Saturday, before traveling to Norway for the return leg against Viking in Stavanger on August 26, 2026.
